Why reading practice matters more than most study methods

Flashcards and grammar drills teach you facts about Greek. Reading real, connected sentences is what teaches you Greek — you see a verb conjugated in context, a word you learned last week reused naturally, and word order that actually behaves the way real Greek behaves, not the way a five-word drill sentence behaves. It’s also the one skill that transfers directly to what most learners actually want: reading a menu, a letter, a text from family, a news article, a book.

Reading level matters more than reading difficulty

The research on language acquisition (Stephen Krashen’s comprehensible input hypothesis, among others) is consistent: you acquire a language fastest from material you already understand about 90% of, so context teaches you the remaining 10%. Native newspapers and novels are usually too hard for anyone below an advanced level — you spend more time looking up words than actually reading. Textbook dialogue is often too thin and unnatural to hold real attention. Where to actually find leveled Greek reading

Real graded readers for Greek specifically are rare — it’s a smaller market than Spanish or French, so the shelf of leveled Greek reading material that exists to buy is thin. A few real options:
